This movie is the Song of the South. A young man trying to make his way, left to the world all too soon. He means well; they all do. But his fractured childhood leaves him stuck at the gate when the starting gun sounds. No matter the hardships, he wants to do what’s right and find meaning and his place in the world. Mocked and taunted along the way, he gets up every time. He just won’t quit. And here’s where Hollywood kicks in.

A beautiful woman is in the picture. She understands him, reaches out to him, and just before it’s too late, he reaches back. The movie ends with the glowing presumption of happiness. That’s Hollywood folks. It makes for a fun film, provided you invite your friend Jack or Jim, ideally both, or at least at few Buds. It’d be nice if life ended that way, but we’ll have to settle for a DVD I suppose.

Who knows the answer? Beyond the “Because I told you so” answer, at least Joe Dirt gets the question right. That’s more than most movies. And this one has Kid Rock, a Hemi, and a mullet sharing the credits. Worth watching.
