I
want to warn everyone to be careful out there. Craigslist
is full of scammers! And they’re getting better. Let me
tell you my recent story. I put an item up for sale
locally. Sure enough, somebody responds saying “it’s just
what I’m looking for” and “the price is fair.” That’s
typical scammer language. I arranged to meet the guy for
the sale.
Boy was I scared! I've heard the stories! I met him in a
parking lot at night. As soon as he got out of the car, I
hit him on the back of the head with a small bat. I wasn't
taking any chances! He was out cold so I put him in the
back of the van and tied him up. When he woke up, I had
already searched his wallet and the crafty bastard had
enough money to pay for my item, so he knew I wasn't
falling for any easy scam. I’m not even sure what the angle
was. Probably he would have flashed the cash and then when
I handed over the item he would have taken off running
leaving me with nothing. He did have running shoes on.
He wouldn't confess what his scam was, so I drove to an
abandoned warehouse parking lot and waterboarded him (hey,
I wasn't going to torture him!) until he confessed he was
trying to scam me even though he wouldn't say how. Now that
his game was up, I rolled him out of the van onto the
parking lot and got out of there. I don't mind telling you
I kept the money - the guy had wasted two hours of my time!
Of course I had obscured the license tag on my car and wore
a mask the whole time. I don’t need some craigslist phreak
tracking me down trying to scam me!
The moral is be careful out there on craigslist. There are
crazies loose!
