Games with Government Rules

The government way is the best way! Let's use government rules in games we like to pump up the fun. Here are some examples.

Poker: Taxes Hold ‘em

Dealer deals according to local flavor of Texas Hold ‘em. Players bet and play as usual. After five hands, play stops. The player who has amassed the most chips due to good fortune and skill must distribute his chips to the other players until he has no more than the average number of chips. Repeat. Fun!

Redistributive Football

Play as normal with these exceptions. A team receives 6 points any time one of its players who has possession of the football places that ball in the opposing team’s end zone . If this places the scoring team in the lead, then points are subtracted from the leading team and added to the losing team until the leading team is no more than 1 point ahead of the opposing team. Any extra points are forfeited to the referee. You must win by two points.

Bail-out BlackJack

Each player at the table makes a bet and receives one card face down and one card face up. The objective is to be the closest to 21 without busting. Any player may bet more than he can afford and take as many cards as he wants. If that player fails to win, he can yell, “Bail out!” At this point, the other players must cover the losing player’s bet so that he can remain at the table and play again. Enjoy!

Bureaucratic Basketball

You can play either liberal or conservative rules. Under conservative play, there are no rules as the market decides who wins. If the team that is worth the most money begins to lose, then that team can add rules until it regains the lead. Under liberal play, the referees are informed at each change of possession how the team with the ball intends to play. The referees form a committee to consider whether the upcoming play is fair, particularly to the less skilled players. If the play is seen as taking advantage of any opposing player's lack of skill, it will be disallowed. The referees may also take shots for players who are not accurate, or direct do-overs until those players score a point.
