The MXR 10 band EQ gives you the chance to shape your sound on a much more detailed basis than a typical amp EQ. I find it introduces some sound into the mix, and although it has a gain function, that acts mainly as a boost, even though it also has a separate volume function. Nevertheless, just engaging the MXR with mild alterations in frequencies I find makes the tone more dynamic and seems to create better separation of string tones when multiple strings are played. The clip that follows, played through a 52 Tele Reissue and a Fender Deluxe Reverb, is of a dry signal followed by the same notes played with the MXR on as pictured.
