Pickup Demos: Stock Gibson, Skatterbrane PAF style, Will Boggs WB Pickups 57 Wire prototype.

I pulled three worthy contenders out tonight and through the magic of a soldering iron put them to the test.

Here they are:

From left to right, that's a stock gibson pickup (from an SG), a Skatterbrane, and a Will Boggs 57 Wire prototype.

Which one would prove to be the winner?

I put them into play in an 02 68RI Ebony.

They funneled their tone magic through RS Guitarworks upgraded electronics:

I shot them to a Fender Deluxe Reverb Reissue.

A little reverb on board the amp, but I skipped the pedal board entirely.

I played a minute per pickup per configuration. So, there are three mp3's you can hear if you want. I rearranged them so one is for rhythm, one is for both pickups, and one is bridge, with the WB first, Gibson second, Skatterbrane third. That's three minute per track. Sorry about that, but you can skip around in the player! Each pickup starts with an open A, a few open chords, and then some barre chords, and some random scale notes and other notes up and down a bit to give a feel for the pickups.

Below are the pickup samples.

The first pickup playing is a 57 Wire WBPickups Prototype. The second is stock Gibson from a faded SG. The third is Skatterbranes with covers.

The first is all pickups playing just the Rhythm pickup.

The second is all pickups playing Middle position both pickups.

The third is all pickups playing just the Bridge pickup.
