Hello! I'm Fiona, a student therapist currently completing my Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology at Yorkville University. I'm happy to be training alongside the Kernel of Wisdom team.
I know how easy it can be to feel like you always have to hold everything together, meet everyone's expectations, or get everything "right." Whether that pressure comes from family, culture, work, school, or the expectations you place on yourself, it can leave you feeling anxious, overwhelmed, or disconnected from what you truly need. My hope is to offer a space where you don't have to have it all figured out, and where you can be yourself without fear of judgment.
As a second-generation Canadian with Sri Lankan roots, I understand how culture, family dynamics, and identity can shape our beliefs about success, responsibility, and self-worth. I value creating a culturally responsive space where all parts of your identity are welcomed and respected.
I believe therapy is a collaborative process built on trust, warmth, and curiosity. Together, we'll explore what's been weighing on you, make sense of the patterns that no longer serve you, and work toward creating a life that feels more balanced, meaningful, and aligned with your values.
Alongside my practicum training, I have volunteered as a crisis responder, supporting individuals through difficult moments with compassion and care. I am certified in Mental Health First Aid and ASIST (Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training), experiences that have strengthened my ability to support people through emotional distress with empathy and presence. I also hold an Honours Bachelor of Science from the University of Toronto Scarborough, where I studied Human Biology and Psychology.
Wherever you are in your journey, I'd be honoured to walk alongside you as you build self-understanding, self-compassion, and confidence in being your authentic self.
