Accessible treatment with expert oversight and supervision, allowing you to get skilled help with less financial strain.
Did you know - all Registered Psychotherapists start with a “student practicum”? These practicums are closely supervised by a practicing psychotherapist and the practicing student’s University - ensuring a LOT of oversight (more than many fully licensed therapists!). AND many of those students have amazing experiences that may make them excellent therapists, even before they are done their Masters’.
WHAT’S THE BENEFIT TO SEEING A STUDENT?
First, therapist is MUCH more affordable. While Kernel of Wisdom’s usual rate is $165 /session, the rate for seeing the student therapist is $100 /session, or less. Sliding scale can still be applied, so if $100 is still too steep right now - talk to us and we can figure out a rate that will work for you.
In addition, students get a LOT of oversight from very experienced clinicians. So, the quality of care you receive can even be better than some non-student therapists out there. Furthermore, student therapists are fresh out of school which means they often have the most current training and knowledge out there. And they are also generally keen, excited to work with you, and eager to help - which add to care, too.
WHAT IF I DON’T FIND IT HELPFUL?
Just like any psychotherapist you see, if you aren’t “clicking” in the experience - you can switch! Kernel of Wisdom has several other therapists we could transfer you to (at the typical rate) or we can refer you to other resources.
CAN I READ MORE ABOUT THE THERAPIST, FIRST?
Yes, when we DO have a student therapist available, their profile will be listed on the Team page here. Our next student practitioner will be announced September 2024, but you’re welcome to get on the waitlist, now!
