Company description

Kernel of Wisdom Psychotherapy & Counselling Services is an established psychotherapy practice which has, thus far, operated primarily from North Durham. The practice treats youth and adults, though there has been demand for children-support. Treatment orientations covered in the practice include CBT, DBT (traditional and RO), EMDR, and CPT. Specialty areas of treatment include eating disorders, trauma and conditions of over-control (i.e., anxiety, depression, emotional loneliness, obsessive-compulsive personality, etc.).

Job Description

Kernel of Wisdom is looking to expand the team. We are looking to add a Registered Psychotherapist or Registered Social Worker and/or Psychologist to the team.

This is a great opportunity to start a private practice, with relatively low risk. Leverage Kernel of Wisdom’s established brand and other resources. A waitlist with potential clients is available to the selected candidate (and advertising options are advised so that you can add more, too), as well as access to client-management software, Zoom account, website, and social media accounts. Training/mentorship in the development of a private practice available if desired. Supervision and/or consultation also optionally available, particularly in developing skillfulness in eating disorders and/or body image concerns.

The hired associate would be free to work remotely and/or see clients from their own space if desired and feasible (that is up to the candidate’s preferences/discretion). The chosen clinician will also be free to set their own days of work and hours. Therapy group options also available (i.e., as a co-facilitator, and/or to start your own). Group consultation available as part of the team, if desired.

Required Qualifications:

  • Applicable Master’s Degree (i.e., Counselling, Psychology, etc.)

  • Excellent core counselling skills, communication abilities, and/or organization/accountability skills

  • Ability to see a minimum of 5 clients / week

Additional, Ideal Qualifications:

  • Broad treatment experience, especially in core areas (i.e., anxiety, mood, interpersonal, etc.)

  • Experience with children, couples and/or families a strong asset

  • Specialization in a related area of focus (i.e., substance use, behavioural addiction, etc.)
