It's like any other relationship - you start by learning about yourself, discovering what you like and don't like, uncovering your values, how you think, and the habits you have; then you spend quality time with yourself - listening, laughing, learning, and growing within that relationship.

"START SAYING 'NO' TO OTHERS SO YOU CAN SAY 'YES' TO YOURSELF." - Joelle

For a long time I put ALL of my energy into gaining approval from other people. I hid the sides of myself people didn’t always like. I was “nice” to the core. I was always striving to be perfect – terrified to make a mistake or disappoint people. But neglecting what my heart wanted, who I really was, caused me to seek comfort in food, encouraged me to spend a lot of money trying to keep up with others’ expectations, and created a huge amount of emotional discomfort and anxiety. I couldn’t stand to be left alone, I was constantly afraid of being abandoned, and I was exhausted from always trying to please people. But worst of all, I felt deeply lonely, unimportant, and meaningless.

So what changed?

I got sick of it, found my inner voice, and started saying "no" to others so I could say "yes" to myself. 

Through mindfulness, holistic psychotherapeutic techniques, and reflective journaling I was able to rediscover who I am and what I love – and it turns out I REALLY like that person. Every day I work to nurture that relationship, honour myself, and be as ME as possible.

I am committed to helping others through the same process of discovering their amazing self within and developing that relationship too. With two certificates in Applied Mindfulness from the University of Toronto, a Masters in Counselling Psychology (soon to be a certified therapist), certificates in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Dialectical Behavioural Therapy, and working toward a certificate in Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy I am highly qualified to help you discover the amazing self that is hidden within and become best friends with that self.
